At SWYHKCS, we believe that true character education goes hand in hand with academic flourish. Grounded in Christian love, forgiveness, and our core CARES principles (Christian Faith & Caring, Acts with Integrity, Respect for Oneself & Others, Enjoy Learning, Serve with Love), our approach to student behaviour is rooted in restorative practice paired with clear, firm boundaries.
We treat every mistake not as a failure, but as a valuable opportunity for learning, reflection, and personal growth. In our warm and supportive environment, children are guided to understand the impact of their choices, take genuine responsibility, and actively make things right.
Restorative Practice: Healing & Growing Together
Restorative discipline focuses on building self-awareness, empathy, and accountability. When missteps happen, our staff guide students through reflective conversations that ask:
- What happened, and what choice did I make?
- Who was affected, and how did it make them feel?
- What can I do now to restore trust and fix the situation?
By focusing on restoring relationships rather than simply assigning blame, we empower our young learners to develop emotional intelligence, resilience, and a true growth mindset.
Firm Boundaries: Safety, Respect, and Mutual Trust
While our approach is deeply compassionate, it is anchored by clear, consistent expectations. Setting firm, predictable boundaries creates a safe, structured, and harmonious environment where every student feels secure and every classroom remains a joyful place for learning.
Our behavioural expectations align directly with our CARES values:
- Respect & Courtesy: Speaking kindly, honoring diverse perspectives, and listening attentively to peers, teachers, bus drivers, and visitors.
- Readiness & Responsibility: Arriving on time, wearing our uniform with pride, and taking ownership of learning equipment and tasks.
- Community & Safety: Looking out for the physical and emotional well-being of others, standing against bullying, and caring for God's creation.
Home-School Partnership
Building character is a shared journey. When behavioral challenges arise, our homeroom teachers, Year Coordinators, and pastoral care teams work transparently alongside parents to support the child. Through open communication, consistent reflection, and mutual guidance, we help every student learn self-regulation, uphold community standards, and grow into articulate, respectful, and compassionate global citizens who live out our school values with joy.
